When OSHA updated the 1910 fall protection standard for general industry in 2017, one of the biggest changes addressed the requirements for fall protection on ladders. OSHA recognized that cages on ladders provide no real means of protection from falls. Therefore, all new permanent ladders over 24’ above a lower level must have a ladder safety system. Existing ladders should also have ladder safety systems retrofitted to them. Sesco Safety’s ladder lifelines systems can be fixed to any new or existing ladder and provide the compliance needed to meet new regulations.
Each ladder lifeline should be carefully considered and the ladder itself should be evaluated by a qualified person to ensure it is going to provide the proper protection for each climber. Depending on your ladders configuration it may require a top extension post or retractable anchor point to provide your workers protection not only while climbing the ladder, but also when entering or exiting the ladder.
Our cable based ladder lifelines can be purchased as a kit for self-installation or as part of a turnkey solution including installation and training. A standard ladder lifeline system will consist of a bottom anchor assembly, a top anchor assembly, intermediate ladder brackets, cable and a locking cable sleeve.
